My new stash fabric from Walmart.

Well, here it is, May 1. My April UFO project is still unfinished! :-(
I was doing so well on it, then had to scoot off to take care of the 'old folks at home' and the quilt had to wait. Meanwhile, the baby for whom I'm making it was born. A little boy! Well, that enables me to make the label and get it stitched on before I put the binding on. I had started the quilting before I left and it is about 3/4 finished. So far I'm just doing 'stitch in the ditch' and some freehand stars, but I still want to use one of the stitches on my new machine someplace.

We recently lost the fabric dept in our local Walmart -- seems like Walmart doesn't think we need fabric anymore -- we've tried and tried to tell them that we do need their fabric department, but they haven't listened. Well, while I was with my folks I ran an errand to a Walmart near them and they still have fabric! A large fabric department, in fact! I managed to purchase a bag full to put in my stash! What fun!! (fabrics are pictured above.) My Mom doesn't quite understand why I'm buying fabric if I don't have a project in mind for that specific piece. But, Sweetie understands so I just keep on buying. My justification is that after Sweetie retires (soon, we hope)I won't be able to do much shopping.

Well, hope everyone is having a great day -- I'm off to an ESL Teacher Luncheon at the local library. Then, after lunch, Sweetie and I have to select new cell phones -- mine appears to have been dropped and it is trying to come apart when opened. Oh, well, we are two years past-due for new phones. I just hope they have the same type -- I don't want one that sings and whistles Dixie!!
Hope you all have a great day!!

Just caught up reading your recent posts - I love it that Sweetie puts those cute stuffed animals on the bed to welcome you home.
What's King Ranch Chicken? (it sounds yummy, even not knowing what it is!)
Yay! Fabric stash. Our Walmart still has fabric - at least they did the last time I was there - several months ago.
Can't wait to see the quilt.

Our Walmart had fabric and then...one day about two months ago, they had prices slashed in HALF with no warning and the fabric was all gone within a very few days. Now they are reworking the whole store and I've been told they will only carry black and white thread and scissors and pins but no zippers or buttons. This means if we need buttons or zippers, we need to go to the nearest Joann's or Hancock's...BOTH about 40 miles from here. We also tried to bombard Walmart with PLEAS to keep the fabric department...told them many of us use their fabric for charity quilts for cancer kids' and adults and accident and fire victims...but they don't seem to care. I would think their founder is turning in his grave at this attitude. *sigh* LQS fabrics are available but too pricey for charity quilts and the shops carry NO buttons or zippers.....so what is a sewing person to do?

Thanks for visiting my site.
I asked our Walmart if they were going to get rid of their department, and they said not for a year or two. So, it is coming.
I have had to replace my cell phone many times because I'm scatterbrained and keep washing it with my clothes!

As for my hexagons...they are 1.5 inches across

We lost our Walmart fabric as well, but we're lucky to have Fabricland, here in Canada. I like your new stash fabrics - soft and spring like.

Pat - try the Goodwill store, or Savers, any charity or consignment shop and see if you can find old sheets, baby blankets, or any sort of clothing item that can be cut into pieces and used for charity quilts. even denim jeans. i bought a bunch of flannel receiving blankets and a flannel sheet from our Goodwill store a few years ago and i'm still using them. you can also find mattress pads that can be cut up and used as batting. try looking at garage sales too.

mom - robert dropped his phone and the screen came off completely. he's been using it as a speakerphone for a week. we have to go tomorrow and buy him a new one.
