Drawing A Man

Earlier I told a funny story about my Dad. Now I want to tell one about my oldest brother, G.
All of my brothers are younger and three of us kids were born in Sept, with birthdays 1 week apart. Because Sept 1 is usually the cut-off date for starting school, three of us went to private school the first year. (This was before kindergarten was added to the school line-up)

When it was time for G to start school he was to go to Mrs. Young's Private School. At the interview, Mrs. Young told my brother that she wanted him to draw a man. "First," she said," I want you to draw his head. Next, draw his body. Next draw his legs, and last, draw his arms."
My brother followed her instruction and then handed her his paper. She looked at it and her eyes got big. "Oh, my." she said. "I've never seen anything like this."
Can you imagine the concern my Mother felt at that point!
Mrs Young shared the picture with my Mother. There was the man -- the head, the body, the arms, and the legs. HOWEVER, they were not joined! The head was in one place -- the body in another -- and so on with the arms and legs. All the pieces were there -- he had drawn them just as he was instructed. Separately!
Mrs Young did accept him in her school and I'm happy to say that he did well there. I think Mrs. Young kept his "man paper." however, because it was so unique.
