Sweetie and I spent the weekend with my parents -- Mom is doing well and is using her cane with ease. She still gets tired quickly but that might happen if she hadn't just had surgery.
She is getting along in years! Dad is looking good, also. His eye problem is getting better and his allergies were taking a rest since it rained off and on all the time we were there. We loved the rain -- we are far behind on our "normal" rainfall, and really, really needed the rain. It was also quite cool, compared to what we have been experiencing!
Sweetie and I did some of the minor repairs/chores around their place, things that they have had a hard time getting done. We took them shopping for a new bed covering, pillows, and a bed skirt, which he and I put on for them. It all looks lovely and Mom is terribly pleased. We ate out most every meal -- the church had a breakfast for the gray headed crowd Saturday morning. It was good food and fellowship, and there was some musical entertainment that was very enjoyable.
We ate Chinese food Fri. noon, and then went to Fish Daddy's for dinner Friday night. It was packed! The food, however, was really well done and we enjoyed our visit there. It was my SIL's birthday and she and my brother accompanied us. After the big breakfast on Saturday, we just nibbled for lunch and for our evening meal I fixed a hearty soup with meat and vegetables which we ate with cornbread. Sunday, after church, we went to a buffet and enjoyed the different food options. Eating out so much left us with few kitchen chores to do and we managed to find time for a major game of Chicken Foot on Friday night and some 42 on Saturday night. I played some really good hands of 42, even if I do say so myself. We played girls against the boys and it ended in a tie.
Sunday, after lunch, we packed and followed our youngest son to his house to admire his remodeling. His place looks really nice. It is still a work in progress, however, and it will be interesting to see how things will look in the long run.
On our way out of town we were passed by an emergency vehicle -- police dept truck with flatbed trailer that had a SWAT team TANK on board. They were running hot -- lights and sirens -- so I think there must have been some major event happening. Perhaps we will hear about it in a couple of days.
Also on the way home we saw where some of the recent brush fires had done their damage. (Another good reason for the rains to be welcomed!) We knew some businesses had burned but were surprised to see which ones and how close to the road they were. Some places were charred and nearby a house with no damage would be standing. Fire is fickle!

This was my first trip with the C-PAP mask and machine and it traveled well.
We did see a bit of bluebonnets along the way, a tiny bit of Indian Paintbrush and some coreopsis. There were also trees beginning to bloom. The four days of rains will greatly benefit the wildflowers and there should be some good showings in a week or so.
The trip was a nice break in our routine and we enjoyed seeing the folks again. We were away from our usual activities -- we had time to read and I worked on my "Grandmother's Flower Garden" quilt pieces.
Back to the real world tomorrow, Sweetie off to work and I to quilting group and then to my chores at home.
How was your weekend?

I'm so glad that you had such a great time with your loved ones. I too treasure my family. It is important that we take the time to have fun and appreciate each other and not feel guilty for taking time away from "stuff" we think we should be doing. Smiles
