Wild things have almost taken over the back yard -- we will have to work hard to get it back into shape. I don't think I watered enough last year, and with our drought conditions, weeds seem to grow when grass won't.
I took a few pictures to show what is already blooming -- remember, these are early birds!
Red Kalancho -- These came up from a failed experiment -- I thought I had dug up all of them to put in a pot, but each year a few more show up in the general area.

Indian Hawthorn. We only have white but they also come in pink.

Tiny wild strawberries below. These are so tiny that only the birds enjoy eating them. They really aren't very sweet, either.

I didn't see any wild violets -- we usually have a bumper crop but they aren't too visible this year. That may be a blessing -- they grow where I want grass. There was also a little bit of color on the Mexican Heather but it really needs to be pruned before the blooms will be enjoyable.
While I wasn't looking, the Chinese Elm decided to put on spring leaves, but the oaks are still waiting for warmer weather.
I have heard that the bluebonnets are showing color along the roadways so I'll try to get out and see them before too long.

I used to live in Longview, TX, also -- in 1960. (You probably weren't born yet!)
Greating from Rome! I like your flowers!
The flowers look promissing. Spring is definitely in the air. Though we are in a cooler climate zone than Texas we can sense it here in the Netherlands.
